When a sequence stops for a contact, Crono records one reason and keeps it against that contact, so you can always see why the outreach ended. This article lists every reason Crono can record, and explains which happen automatically and which depend on your own settings.
A stopped contact is not the same as a removed one. Stopping keeps the contact in the sequence with the status Stopped; removing takes them out of it entirely. See How to stop or remove contacts from a sequence.
The prospect engaged
They replied to one of your emails
They replied to one of your LinkedIn messages
A call with them connected
They accepted your LinkedIn invitation
Something moved forward
A meeting was booked with them
A deal was created on their company
A deal moved to a stage you have set to stop outreach
Their company's status changed to one you have set to stop outreach
Something about the contact changed
A field or status on the contact changed to a value you configured as a stop condition
They were moved to a different company
Their owner changed and the new owner did not inherit the sequence
They opted out
Something stopped working
An email to them bounced
The mailbox sending the sequence was disconnected
Someone or something stopped it
You or a colleague stopped it manually
It was stopped through the Crono API
An automation rule fired. This covers activity signals such as a role change, a company change, a website visit, a hiring signal, or an email open or click, as well as any rule that has no more specific reason of its own.
The sequence ran out
The contact completed the last step
The sequence was deleted
The last remaining task for that contact was removed
Which of these you control
Always automatic: a bounce, an opt-out, a disconnected mailbox, and the three cases where the sequence simply ran out. These need no configuration and cannot be switched off.
Configurable: most of the rest — stopping on a reply, on a connected call, on a booked meeting, on a deal stage, or on a status or field change — only happens if the matching rule is switched on. You will find these under Settings → Automations, where some are workspace-wide defaults and others are rules you create yourself.
If a sequence stopped for a reason you did not expect, that is the first place to look.
What to do next
If the prospect engaged, carry the conversation on manually — that is what the stop is for.
If an email bounced, correct or replace the address before enrolling the contact again.
If the mailbox was disconnected, reconnect it under Account Settings → Integrations → Mailbox, then enrol the contact again.
If the contact opted out, they cannot be enrolled again until the Do Not Contact flag is removed.
If an automation stopped it and you did not intend that, review the rule under Settings → Automations before re-enrolling, or the sequence will stop again.
